BWSC provided site civil design services, including landscaping, grading, layout and drainage, for a new four-lab layout with equipment room to house advanced microscopes at the ORNL. Site design meets the criteria to be certified under the U.S. Green Building Council’s LEED® Rating System. BWSC is currently providing building design services. Electrical design included lighting, power, communications, and fire alarms systems. This project required careful coordination between BWSC, the contractor and UTB in order to meet an extremely tight budget limitation on a technically challenging laboratory project. Many of the various elements of sustainable design are included, such as reduced site disturbance, reduction in nonporous surfaces, reduced stormwater rate and quantity, improved stormwater quality, reduced heat island effects, water-efficient landscaping, use of local/regional materials, use of recycled materials, use of certified wood, etc. |
